Our Story

Founder and CEO, Tina Hurley, is a nationally certified Physician Assistant and an amputee that inspires others to thrive despite the challenging nature of their circumstances.

Less Leg More Heart’s Beginnings

After calf discomfort, foot numbness, and over a dozen surgeries, Tina Hurley was diagnosed with a very rare vascular disorder called Popliteal Artery Entrapment Syndrome. In 2016, she became a leg amputee, and everyday tasks became impossible. Anxiety, depression, and fear overwhelmed her until she was reminded that there is tremendous strength in vulnerability.

Tina reclaimed her community and physicality, in part through a local CrossFit gym. After thirteen total surgeries, she learned that life isn’t about having ten fingers and ten toes; it’s about developing inner constancy, building virtue in yourself, and being of service to the world. She found her sense of purpose and founded Less Leg More Heart as a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Using her medical training and patient experience, she constructed four pillars of operation: peer mentorship, medical advocacy, funding for holistic approaches to care, and funding for home services when someone is recovering from the hospital.

Less Leg More Heart’s Vision

The next amputee won’t lose further weight from a lack of protein; we will provide supplements.  The next trauma victim won’t wither when they leave rehab; we will provide a gym membership.  The next patient won’t feel so alone, so lost for resources, so confused about medical jargon, so unsure of medical decision-making; we will advise, consult, advocate, and encourage. The next rock bottom will have a softer landing because we commit to be their cushion.  You don’t need both feet to leave your mark in this world.

“There is tremendous strength in vulnerability.”
