THE MAD HATTER FUN RUN IN REVERSE
WHAT IS IT?
Some people call the The Mad Hatter a race. Others call it a fun run. But no matter what you call it, The Mad Hatter is meant to be loads of fun, should never be taken too seriously, and will give you a chance of seeing the Mine Falls racecourse in a whole new perspective. Why? The whole race is done in reverse. Everything. Both the 5 mile and the 5K course will be run IN REVERSE.
The clock is begun at 00:1:00 (one hour) and it runs backwards! And instead of everyone leaving at once, everyone leaves at the time they want to finish.
The idea is that (in theory) everyone should finish at the start line at the same time. So let’s say you ran your fastest 5K at 33 minutes and 42 seconds. Then you would wait until the clock hit 00:33:42 and begin running! The question is… can you beat 0:00:00!!!??? Can you catch the slowest runner and finish at the same time!?
WHERE IS IT?
Because the Mad Hatter runs the course in reverse, it will begin where we normally finish, the parking lot of the Nashua Skate Park. It will go thru Mine Falls and be well marked so that every runner will know their correct path. Along the way you’ll meet up with volunteers who are cheering you on and helping you go the correct way. The Fun Run (or race against yourself) will end in the parking lot behind the YMCA where most of us park.
HOW MUCH IS IT?
As always, the last race of the year is no charge. So that means the Mad Hatter is freeeeee. No, really! Gate City Striders is hosting it as a gift to all the runners, walkers, volunteers, and bystanders that have supported us this summer. Our only request is that you if you can, please make a donation to the Less Leg, More Heart organization. So whether it’s $1 or $100, 100% of proceeds raised will go to helping an amputee get a running blade.
WHO SHOULD COME?
Anyone who loves being in the trails. Would like to help raise money for a good cause. Who loves prizes. (FREE prizes!) And all the Mine Series Trail Runners that want their t-shirts, won their age division, and want to check out the race in reverse!
WHEN IS IT?!
It’s this coming Monday, the 19th. We encourage the runners to come as early as 5:45, so that they can enter the various raffles, pick up their bibs and t-shirts, sign the Mine Falls “yearbook” and make sure they’re warmed up for whatever their start time is. The clock will begin at 6:15 pm SHARP. So if you need the full hour to complete the course, please make sure you are there by 6 pm. There will be a group photo at 7:20. The raffle and free prizes will be drawn at 7:30 and then everyone will be told to skidaddle around 7:45 because that’s when the skeeters start to come out!
