“My name is Sam Schaefer, and I'm an amputee. The journey after my amputation was a rebirth of sorts, a chance to experience life without pain for the first time in 9 years. I had a lot to learn, but that was nothing compared to the freedom I felt finally getting to live without severe pain at all times.
I've since been on a mission to create my dream life, filled with adventures like my first kickboxing match. And I've been sharing what I’ve learned with as many amputees as possible, giving them the tools to live their life on their terms.
One organization that's been instrumental in my journey is Less Leg More Heart. They've been supportive of everything I’m doing, instilling a new level of confidence in my ability to do whatever I want. They've given me the tools to train for a 30k trail run in Utah, something I never thought I’d be able to do.
Through the H.E.A.R.T.S. Program, they also gave me the opportunity to train and share my knowledge directly with more amputees. This support has been invaluable. Because of Less Leg More Heart, I'm not just living life, I'm thriving.
The hope they've instilled in me is unshakeable. I know I can figure out anything with enough time and with Less Leg More Heart in my corner, I'm never short on hope. Life as an amputee is challenging, but with the right support, it's a challenge I'm ready to take on every day.”
